Changes to Berkshire East in recent years

In late 1965, the original owners of Berkshire East sold it to the current ownership, who tried a few ill-fated expansion plans. By 1975, the ski area was bankrupt, and it was still operated with two antiquated Mueller chairlifts and a partially installed Hall chairlift. Under the new ownership, the ski area underwent a series of investments that led to a number of modernizations, including the construction of a new Hall double chairlift in 1978, an additional one in 2001, and a Borvig-Leitner quad chairlift that operated its last season in 2003. In recent years, Berkshire East has invested over $1.5 million in upgrades to its snowmaking facilities. In the 2012-13 season, it installed new snowmaking pumps, tower guns, and a summit pond, increasing the firepower of the resort’s snowmaking operations. In 2013, Berkshire East announced a major base lodge expansion and dozens of new Areco fan guns for the upcoming season. Similarly, the UMass and Hemlock trails were widened with tower guns. In 2014, the ski area replaced the Summit Triple with a loading carpet quad and installed a mountain coaster. In the same year, the ski area acquired 140 acres adjacent to Valley View Farm and started construction of a downhill mountain bike park.
